The universe handed Co-founder Shannon a penguin‑shaped love note. Our partner, Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (Saprec), just let us know that Baby Shannon is here! There’s a very real chance she cried into her hot tea as she read the message this morning.
Baby Shannon looks like she rolled out of the world’s cutest dryer cycle.
In late July, we learned that African penguin couple Ballot and Happy Feet were going to be parents. Shannon is still processing the huge honor that their chick carries her name.
If you’ve been part of the KruShan Foundation journey, then you know how much the critically endangered African penguins that we protect mean to us. Every chick is proof that the species still has a fighting chance. Baby Shannon is loud, opinionated, and already demanding food. As she grows she’ll become more curious, playful, mischievous, and at times, cantankerous. So yeah, the name fits.
