African Penguins are running out of time
They could be gone by 2035.
You Can Help Change That
Enjoy our free 5-day email course that turns “what can one person do?” into actions that actually move the needle. After you complete the course, you’ll have bragging rights; you’ll know more about critically endangered African penguins than 99% of the population.
African penguins have declined over 97% since the 1900s. In five days, you’ll understand exactly why and what to do.
You care about wildlife. You’ve felt that pang when you see the headlines. And maybe you’ve wondered: what could I actually do from where I live?
A lot, it turns out.
This free 5-day email course gives you the full picture: the science, the stories, the stakes, and hands you something real to do every single day.
No background in biology required. No passport needed. Just five short reads and a genuine desire to help.
Seven-minute lessons. Zero guilt trips. A crash course in “I actually know what to do now.”

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN 5 DAYS
Day 1: Empty Oceans. Overfishing is starving African penguin chicks before they’re old enough to swim. You’ll understand the supply chain that connects your grocery store to a dying colony, and you’ll know exactly what to do about it.
Day 2: The Invisible Killer. Marine noise pollution is quietly dismantling African penguin colonies while most people have never heard of it. You’ll learn why it’s catastrophic, and how to make sure more people do.
Day 3: The Policy Problem. South Africa has a plan to save African penguins. It’s collecting dust. You’ll see exactly who needs to hear from you and why a single email from abroad carries more weight than you’d expect.
Day 4: Black Gold, Black Death. One oil spill can devastate thousands of penguins in a single day. Rescue centers are the critical last line of defense. You’ll understand why they matter, and how your support directly reduces the risk.
Day 5: The Slow Burn. Climate change has displaced the fish hundreds of kilometers from where African penguins evolved to hunt. This is the longest game, and it requires the broadest coalition. You’ll leave knowing your full role in it.
WHY PEOPLE ACTUALLY FINISH THIS COURSE
It respects your intelligence. No doom-scrolling, no shame spirals. Just clear facts, vivid field stories, and honest next steps, so you can decide how you want to show up.
Each lesson zooms in on a single problem and hands you concrete solutions to do before the next day’s email arrives. No overwhelm, just momentum.
Built by a learning designer, not a marketer. Shannon holds an M.S. in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology. That means this course was built the way effective learning actually works: story first, science second, action third. No fluff, no filler.
WHO THIS IS FOR
You’ll love this course if:
- You care deeply about wildlife but feel far away from the problem—and you’re ready for that to change.
- You’ve shared a heartbreaking penguin post before, and wished you could do something with more teeth.
- You want to understand the real threats, not just the headlines, so you can talk about them with confidence.
- You want small, meaningful wins that build into lasting habits of action.
You might want to skip it if:
- You’re looking for a guilt trip. (Not our style).
- You want a deep-dive into graduate-level marine biology. These are vivid, grounded, and practical seven-minute reads.
- You believe one person can’t make a difference. (This course might change your mind on that, though.)
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
“I didn’t know South Africa has penguins. I thought penguins were only found where it’s cold. By the second day I had shared KruShan Foundation’s posts and told my Bunco group about this course.” — Sandy G., wildlife photographer, Austin, TX
“I’ve been overwhelmed by what’s going on in the world. Learning about the critically endangered African penguins and the ways I can help them gives me a way to make a difference that feels good.” — George M., retired, Falmouth, England, United Kingdom
ABOUT THE CREATOR
I’m Shannon, co-founder of KruShan Foundation. I hold an M.S. in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology. I’ve spent the past several years dedicating my life to African penguin conservation. I give talks to birding clubs, photography groups, libraries, and community organizations across the U.S.
In 2025, our small foundation helped rehabilitate 32 African penguin chicks, built an X-ray room at a rescue center in Gansbaai, South Africa, and put a full-time seabird ranger at the Dyer Island African penguin colony. We’re the underdogs fighting for underdogs. I’m glad you’re here.
SO…
The course is free. The knowledge is yours to keep. And the penguins? They’ve got a better shot because you’re here.
